A Glimpse into My Life: Colors, Creations, and Houston Adventures
The new year has begun with a mix of frenetic energy and quiet contemplation. Have you ever felt like you’re pouring your heart and soul into a project, yet it seems stuck in place, refusing to budge? That’s been my experience with the blog lately. Despite feeling this way, I’m incredibly grateful that you’ve been resonating with some of my recent projects. It’s always encouraging to know that my creative endeavors are appreciated, even when I feel like I’m navigating a somewhat experimental phase (remember this hanging flower installation? It was a hit!).
I’m committed to my resolution of creating simply for the joy of it, and I’ve been sporadically updating my #glossaryofcolor project on Instagram. The image at the top of this post features a color glossary I created using leftover flowers from a recent project. It also provides a peek behind the scenes, revealing the delightful chaos that unfolds just outside the camera’s frame.
We’ve also been making a conscious effort to take weekends off, a significant shift from last year. I’m not exaggerating when I say that I was working constantly. If someone had asked me about my hobbies outside of work, I wouldn’t have known how to respond. Hobbies that didn’t involve working 100 hours a week? I was clueless. But as it turns out, I still have a wide array of interests…

Exploring Houston and Rediscovering Simple Pleasures
Weekends have become synonymous with exploration and rediscovering the simple joys of life. Houston, with its vibrant culture and culinary scene, offers endless possibilities for adventure. Taking time to step away from the demands of work has allowed me to appreciate the beauty and experiences that surround me.
One of my favorite ways to spend a weekend is cycling through Houston’s beautiful parks. The city boasts an impressive network of trails and green spaces, providing a welcome escape from the urban hustle. With the weather in Houston being absolutely perfect lately, I’ve been putting some serious miles on my new bike. If the weather were a person, I’d write in their yearbook, “Stay the same, never change! #LYLAS.” The sunshine and fresh air are invigorating, providing a much-needed dose of vitamin D and a chance to clear my head.

A Culinary Adventure at Kipper Club Test Kitchen
Recently, Jared and I had the opportunity to experience a phenomenal five-course meal at Kipper Club Test Kitchen. The meal was prepared by Michael Gulotta of MoPho in New Orleans, and it was truly an unforgettable culinary journey. One of the highlights was the bone-in beef ribs in passion fruit curry with crispy sticky rice balls. And let’s not forget the expertly crafted Downhouse drinks that were perfectly paired with each course.
I use the word “experience” intentionally here. The whole evening felt like a carefully curated adventure. You’re transported to the eclectically located pop-up restaurant, and while it might not seem like much at first glance, it quickly reveals itself as one of the coolest places we’ve dined in Houston. They feature a different chef each themed weekend, offering some of the best food around without the pretentious atmosphere (I can’t stand uppity vibes!). We’ve been recommending it to everyone we know, and if you’re ever in Houston, you absolutely have to check it out!

Family Time and Embracing the “Aunt” Role
Taking weekends off has also allowed me to spend more quality time with my nieces and nephews. While they aren’t technically blood relatives, my friends are having kids, and I’ve embraced my role as “Aunt” with open arms. There’s something incredibly special about watching these little ones grow and being a part of their lives. From playing games to reading stories, these moments are precious and bring so much joy.
One particular moment stands out: I rocked one of my nephews to sleep and held him until my arms were numb. He woke up a little later and realized I wasn’t his mom, but I was still thrilled nonetheless. No harm done there! These small interactions remind me of the importance of connection and the simple pleasures of family.

Rejuvenating with a Beaming Cleanse
After the holidays and indulging in one too many five-course meals, I decided to embark on a four-day cleanse from Beaming. This was the first four-day cleanse I’ve ever attempted, and the last day was definitely the most challenging. To make matters even more interesting, I was decorating abstract art macarons while on the cleanse. Talk about temptation!
I’d be lying if I said cleanses were enjoyable or easy for me (my cookie consumption is a little out of the norm), but Live Beaming is the only one I can actually stick to. You actually eat raw foods along with the juices, so you feel like you’re nourishing your body rather than starving yourself. Plus, it comes shipped to your house in individual cooler bags with numbers and labels, making it easy to stay on track and take with you on the go. Did I mention the salad comes with edible flowers? You know I’m sold on that!
The Beaming cleanse provides a reset button, allowing me to refocus on healthy habits and make conscious choices about what I’m putting into my body. It’s a way to step back from the indulgences and re-establish a sense of balance. While it’s not always easy, the benefits are undeniable.

Looking Ahead and Seeking Inspiration
So, that’s a little glimpse into what I’ve been up to lately. From exploring new recipes and rediscovering hobbies to spending time with loved ones and prioritizing wellness, I’m embracing the opportunities that this new year has to offer.
I’ll be back tomorrow with your regularly scheduled programming, but I’d love to hear from you!
