Unwinding with Netflix: My Current Must-Watch Shows and Recommendations
After wrapping up several significant projects, including the launch of a brand-new website, all I can think about is relaxing with Netflix. We’ve been working tirelessly, and a couple of days of downtime are desperately needed. Right now, we’re in Austin collaborating with Camille Styles, attending meetings, and then heading back to Houston for a conference on Saturday. Finally, Sunday will be my day to do absolutely nothing and hopefully kick this cold!
That leads me to a crucial question: What are your current Netflix obsessions? We’ve been deeply engrossed in NCIS lately. I chose it because I love a good mystery, but I also need something lighthearted that won’t keep me up at night. Plus, most episodes have a satisfying conclusion. I tend to get hooked on suspenseful series and end up watching episode after episode until the early hours. It’s fun occasionally, but it definitely throws off my sleep schedule.
Here are a few of the shows we’ve been watching recently. Hopefully, my recommendations can guide you through your next binge-watching session:
Our Netflix Binge-Watching List
-
NCIS: A Surprisingly Addictive Procedural Drama
Feel free to judge my choice, but once you get past the initial awkwardness of the first season, NCIS becomes incredibly enjoyable. If you start with newer seasons, like 12 or 13 (which is how I discovered the show), it’s far less dated. After becoming hooked, we went back to the beginning and are currently on season 3, so we have a long way to go to catch up. The blend of crime-solving, character development, and occasional humor makes it surprisingly binge-worthy. It is a police procedural with heart!
-
Parenthood: A Heartwarming Family Drama
I literally aspire to be a Braverman! We watched Parenthood religiously. We held hands, we cried (don’t tell Jared I admitted that!), and I even stalked the actors on Instagram afterwards to fill the void left after the series finale. While perhaps not the healthiest coping mechanism, I truly loved it. The series explores the complexities of family relationships with authenticity and emotional depth, making it a truly special show. The perfect feel-good show for any tv watcher.
-
Death in Paradise: A Lighthearted Mystery with a Tropical Twist
We finished Death in Paradise not too long ago, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It’s a delightful blend of comedy and mystery, with each episode providing a self-contained story. This is a great show for light viewing because it always has a conclusion at the end of the episode and does not stress you out at all. The show offers a relaxing viewing experience with its beautiful Caribbean setting and quirky characters.
-
Making a Murderer: A Gripping True Crime Documentary (That I Couldn’t Finish)
Honestly, I couldn’t even finish the whole series. If I had to watch Steven Avery’s freaky fiance, Jodi, laugh on the phone with him one more time, I might lose it. It just made me so uncomfortable. I made it to episode 6 and then gave up. Thankfully, there are plenty of articles floating around to fill me in. The burning question is: Do you think he did it? I just want someone to summarize a theory for me so I don’t have to keep wondering. The documentary raises important questions about the justice system and leaves viewers with a sense of unease.
-
Bloodline: A Suspenseful Thriller Set in the Florida Keys
Bloodline falls into the category of shows that kept me awake until ungodly hours of the night. We also made sure to visit all of the filming locations when we traveled to Key West. The family dynamics, secrets, and moral ambiguities make it a compelling and thought-provoking watch. Now I’m anxiously awaiting the chance to catch up on the second season when I am able to function on little to no sleep.
Your Netflix Recommendations Wanted!
So now, it’s your turn to tell me, what are some of your favorite Netflix shows? Also, please note that I don’t do scary movies. After all, I named a blog after sugar, what did you expect?
Finding the Best Netflix Shows for You: A Guide
Navigating the vast sea of content that Netflix offers can be quite overwhelming. With new shows and movies being added regularly, it’s easy to get lost in the choices. But don’t worry, I’m here to provide some tips on how to find the best Netflix shows tailored to your taste.
1. Leverage Netflix’s Recommendation System
Netflix’s algorithm is designed to learn your viewing habits and suggest content that you’ll likely enjoy. The more you watch and rate, the better the recommendations become. So, be sure to rate the shows and movies you watch, as this will help the algorithm fine-tune its suggestions.
2. Explore Different Genres
Don’t be afraid to venture outside of your comfort zone and explore different genres. You might be surprised to discover a hidden gem that you never would have considered otherwise. Netflix offers a wide variety of genres, from comedy and drama to documentaries and reality TV.
3. Read Reviews and Recommendations
Before committing to a show, take some time to read reviews and recommendations from other viewers. Sites like Rotten Tomatoes and IMDb offer user ratings and reviews that can help you get a sense of whether a show is worth watching. You can also check out online forums and social media groups dedicated to discussing Netflix shows.
4. Use the “My List” Feature
The “My List” feature allows you to save shows and movies that you’re interested in watching later. This is a great way to keep track of your discoveries and ensure that you don’t forget about them. You can also use the “My List” feature to create personalized playlists for different moods or occasions.
5. Take Advantage of Free Trials
If you’re not already a Netflix subscriber, consider taking advantage of their free trial offer. This will give you the opportunity to explore the platform and try out different shows and movies without committing to a long-term subscription. You can also cancel your subscription at any time if you decide that Netflix is not for you.
Conclusion
Finding the perfect Netflix show can be a delightful experience, but it can also be time-consuming. By using the tips above, you can narrow down your choices and find content that you’ll truly enjoy.
