During our unforgettable stay, we were graciously hosted by The Hamilton Princess & Beach Club, an iconic Fairmont property often affectionately known as Bermuda’s “Pink Palace.” Every moment spent within its elegant walls was pure bliss. From the moment you arrive, the hotel captivates with its blend of historic charm and contemporary luxury, boasting stunning harbor views, multiple pools, and a world-class art collection featuring renowned artists. It’s an oasis that perfectly embodies the sophisticated spirit of Hamilton.

One particular feature that instantly stole my heart was the series of vibrant, multi-colored stairs within Marcus’s, the hotel’s signature restaurant. They were so spectacularly awesome, I half-jokingly wished I could somehow transport them back home! This playful burst of color is just one example of the unique aesthetic and attention to detail that makes the Hamilton Princess truly stand out. The hotel itself is a destination, offering a full range of amenities designed for ultimate comfort and enjoyment.

Seamless Travel: Getting to Bermuda

Many of you inquired about our travel route from Houston. We opted for American Airlines, which included a convenient layover in Miami for both our outbound and return flights. For travelers residing on the East Coast of the United States, Bermuda is incredibly accessible, with numerous airlines offering direct flights that can be as short as two hours, particularly from major hubs like New York City. This proximity and ease of travel make it an appealing choice for a quick weekend getaway or a longer, more leisurely vacation.

Upon arrival at Bermuda International Airport (BDA), a scenic drive of approximately 30 to 40 minutes awaits before reaching the heart of Hamilton. The journey itself offers a delightful introduction to the island’s charm, winding through the historic St. George’s parish, with glimpses of lush landscapes and characteristic Bermudian architecture.

Navigating the Island: Hamilton and St. George’s Parish

While many of your Instagram recommendations urged us to explore the picturesque St. George’s, renowned for its UNESCO World Heritage site status and an abundance of colorful historic buildings and quaint shops, our short weekend itinerary steered us towards a more relaxed approach. We made the conscious decision to establish Hamilton as our primary base, dedicating our time to unwinding and enjoying the amenities of our resort and its immediate surroundings. However, for those planning a longer stay, venturing to St. George’s is highly recommended to soak in its rich history and vibrant streetscapes. The distinct charm of both ends of the island offers something for every type of traveler.

One crucial detail to note about the Hamilton Princess is its prime location on the bustling Hamilton Harbour waterfront. While offering spectacular views and easy access to the city, the hotel’s private beach club is not directly adjacent. Instead, a complimentary shuttle service operates throughout the day, providing convenient transfers to and from the beach. The scenic ride typically takes around twenty minutes, allowing guests to relax and enjoy the island scenery.

We initially overlooked the distance between the hotel and its private beach when researching online, which led to a minor packing oversight. A tip for future travelers: pack an extra tote bag or two! The private beach is a fully equipped paradise, complete with comfortable chairs, fresh towels, a lively bar, and a dedicated lunch spot. You’ll have everything you need for a perfect beach day, from refreshing drinks to delicious meals, ensuring you stay well-nourished and comfortably shaded.

Exploring Bermuda by Moped: Freedom and Scenic Views

While Bermuda offers an efficient public bus system and charming local ferries, taxis on the island can be quite expensive, and modern ride-sharing services like Uber are not available. To gain more flexibility and truly immerse ourselves in the island’s charm, we opted for a quintessential Bermudian experience: renting a moped. For approximately $75 for 24 hours, we rented a moped right outside the hotel, granting us the freedom to explore at our own pace, discover hidden coves, and capture endless photo opportunities. It’s an exhilarating way to navigate the island’s winding roads and take in the breathtaking coastal scenery, just remember to drive cautiously and adapt to left-hand traffic!

Beyond our memorable moped excursion, our culinary journey was largely centered at the hotel, and we savored every meal. While the Hamilton Princess offers a diverse array of dining options, Marcus’s consistently stood out as our favorite. Chef Marcus Samuelsson’s globally-inspired cuisine offers an exquisite blend of local flavors and international flair, creating an unforgettable dining experience. And for a lighter, yet equally delightful indulgence, the lobby cafe’s cake shakes were absolutely divine – a perfect treat any time of day!

For an elevated experience that truly enhances your stay, we cannot recommend the Gold Room status enough. This premium option transforms your visit into an almost all-inclusive luxury experience. Guests with Gold Room access enjoy a host of exclusive perks, including a sumptuous, delicious breakfast spread every morning, complimentary afternoon tea and sandwiches, and a fantastic happy hour with light bites served every evening from 5-7 pm.
