Little Sugar and Cloth’s Sweet Second Baby Gender Reveal

It’s GENDER REVEAL time! And we are absolutely thrilled to share this special moment with all of you. We’ve been so touched by your excitement and anticipation for our second baby’s gender, and it truly mirrors our own feelings as we embark on this new chapter. The journey to expanding our family has been filled with unique experiences, and revealing whether we’re expecting a boy or a girl adds another layer of joy and surprise.

For Jared, the sealed gender reveal envelope represented a treasure chest that he desperately wanted to open. He described it as holding a million dollars in a box he couldn’t touch – the suspense was almost unbearable! His natural impatience was magnified by this sweet secret, making every moment of waiting a delightful torture.

Interestingly, my own emotional landscape regarding the reveal was quite different this time around. With our firstborn, Gwen, there was an intense eagerness, a palpable anxiety to discover if we were having a boy or a girl, as vividly captured in Gwen’s vibrant gender reveal party. This time, while equally excited, I felt a calming sense of contentment. Perhaps it’s the wisdom gained from navigating parenthood, or simply the different rhythm of a second pregnancy, but the urgency had mellowed into a serene anticipation. Speaking of first announcements, you can revisit how we first shared our pregnancy news with family here!

I recall with a smile how, at Gwen’s 11-week ultrasound, the technician preemptively hinted at a boy, even though we hadn’t asked. It was an amusing start to our first pregnancy journey, filled with early guesses and superstitions. This time, I anticipated feeling some pressure, a desire for one gender over the other to complete our family. However, after traversing the exciting yet challenging path of new parenthood, those feelings didn’t materialize. We’ve learned so much, adapted to so many changes, and ultimately, our biggest wish is for a healthy, happy baby. The gender felt less like a preference and more like a delightful bonus.

Our Thoughts on Expanding the Family Further

This second pregnancy has also prompted many conversations about the future of our family. Originally, Jared and I both envisioned having three children. However, the reality of parenting Gwen has been a joyful, albeit intense, learning curve. We often joke that Gwen feels like “two kids in one” – a testament to her vibrant personality and boundless energy!

While she truly is the absolute best, our journey with her has included navigating some significant hurdles. We’ve contended with intense colic and reflux, which tested our patience and resilience in the early months. Balancing our professional lives with working from home while caring for a baby, and now a spirited toddler, has been an ongoing challenge. We’ve learned to decode her high-energy phases, finding the best ways to channel her enthusiasm, and have become adept at handling her very “passionate” toddler opinions. These experiences have reshaped our perspective on family size, making us pause and re-evaluate our initial plans.

For now, we’re keeping the option of a third child open for down the road, allowing ourselves the flexibility to see how our family dynamics evolve. However, we would be more than ecstatic and profoundly grateful with two healthy and happy children. The thought that crossed my mind was, if we were to welcome a boy this time, we would have the wonderful experience of raising both a girl and a boy should we decide to complete our family here. This beautiful balance is certainly an appealing prospect as we contemplate our future.

Back to the Gender Reveal: Unveiling Our Little One’s Secret

Speaking of boys, let’s dive back into the heart of the matter – the highly anticipated gender reveal for baby number two!

Old Wives’ Tales and Pregnancy Symptoms

Many of you, our wonderful readers and followers, observed that I was carrying higher this time around. This observation sparked numerous predictions in the comments and messages, with many suggesting that carrying high is a traditional sign of expecting a boy. It’s always fascinating to hear these old wives’ tales and see how they align (or don’t!) with individual pregnancies.

Beyond external observations, my pregnancy symptoms for baby number two were notably different from my experience with Gwen. With Gwen, my nausea was significant but generally subsided by week 13. This time, however, the morning sickness – which often felt more like all-day sickness – was relentless. I was physically ill almost daily, especially in the initial weeks, and it continued intensely until week 17. To manage the severity, I relied on Bonjesta, a Zofran alternative, which provided some relief but also came with the side effect of intense fatigue. The experience was so impactful that even now, certain songs playing on the radio can trigger a wave of nausea, a sensation I’ve come to dub “first trimester PTSD.” This pregnancy truly presented a unique set of challenges regarding symptoms, far surpassing my first.

A Simpler, More Intimate Reveal

In the midst of navigating those challenging first trimester symptoms, my energy levels were understandably low. The thought of planning a grand, elaborate gender reveal celebration, similar to Gwen’s, felt overwhelming and simply wasn’t a priority. This is often a reality for second pregnancies – priorities shift, and the focus tends to be more on quiet joy and practicalities. We affectionately call these “second child problems,” where the fuss often gives way to intimacy and ease.

This time, the reveal itself was a beautiful reflection of our current phase of life. Jared, ever the eager one, asked if his Father’s Day gift could be the simple act of opening the sealed envelope containing our baby’s gender. It was a sweet, personal request that resonated deeply with me. So, that’s exactly what we did. No elaborate setups or big parties – just the two of us, a camera, and that precious envelope. I captured the moment on video, ensuring we could relive his genuine reaction.

Before you watch the video, here’s a quick recap of the early gender guesses from our closest circle and community:

  • Ashley (Me): I genuinely didn’t have a strong hunch one way or another. I felt happy with either outcome.
  • Jared: Initially, he leaned towards thinking it was a girl, but confessed a secret hope for a boy, especially considering our discussions about potentially stopping at two children.
  • Our Instagram Community: The majority of our wonderful followers predicted a boy.
  • Our Family: Most of our family members, on the other hand, had a strong feeling it would be a girl.

Just a little side note – I accidentally trimmed the very end of the video, but it captured me exclaiming, “This pregnancy just got a whole lot cheaper!” A somewhat cheeky, yet honest, reaction reflecting the practical side of preparing for a new baby. Sometimes, practicality shines through, even in moments of profound joy!
