Our arrival in Tallinn felt like stepping into a storybook. Its enchanting cobblestone streets and medieval architecture create an atmosphere so captivating, you’ll never want to leave. Yet, it’s compact enough to allow for leisurely strolls, offering something delightful around every winding corner. Whether you’re interested in history, local crafts, or simply soaking in the ambiance, Tallinn Old Town delivers. We even celebrated Cinco de Mayo there, which explains the festive spirit in the photo above!

This stop was undoubtedly Jared’s most anticipated part of the entire trip – visiting Russia. It had been on his bucket list for as long as I can remember, and honestly, we never had high hopes of actually making it there, especially given current global dynamics. However, I can definitively say that visiting St. Petersburg via a cruise is truly the optimal way to experience this magnificent city.

Throughout our meticulously organized tours, I never once felt unsafe or uneasy. While the Russian language may not be renowned for its lyrical beauty, the country’s architecture more than compensates. St. Petersburg truly excels in its intricate details, breathtaking scale, and sheer opulence. Every facade, every dome, and every interior space is a testament to an era of unparalleled grandeur and artistic mastery. The attention to detail is simply phenomenal, don’t you agree?

I must confess, I’m not always the most focused tourist; my attention span can sometimes be akin to that of a child, which often leads to entertaining diversions between official stops! These moments of lighthearted fun certainly added another layer of enjoyment to our Russian adventure. Stockholm, Sweden: Where Fairytale Snow Meets Shopping Euphoria

Ah, Stockholm… you truly captured my heart. Our arrival in the Swedish capital was nothing short of magical, as it began to snow softly the moment we stepped off the ship. For a Texas native like myself, who rarely experiences the full spectrum of seasons, this was an incredibly exciting and enchanting welcome, transforming the city into a winter wonderland.

I honestly could have rented an enormous shipping container just to transport all the treasures I yearned to buy in Stockholm. The shopping scene here is truly exceptional. You know it’s serious when even your husband, typically more reserved about purchases, repeatedly encourages you with exclamations like, “Definitely buy that!” Our friend Sara had raved about one particular shop, Lagerhaus, describing it as a “Dollar General for everything beautiful.” She was absolutely right; I quite literally did a shopping cart dash through its aisles, filling it with an array of stylish and affordable home decor and gifts.

Beyond the retail therapy, we made a conscious effort to explore some of Stockholm’s other delightful attractions, not just places to fill our studio with more beautiful things. Rosendals Tradgard quickly became one of my absolute favorites. Both Eden and Jen had highly recommended it, and I can easily imagine spending every day simply sitting in its serene and picturesque gardens.

Stockholm Highlights: Beyond the Shops

Now, is that a subway stop, or an immersive art installation? I don’t know who first conceived the brilliant idea of transforming Stockholm’s subway stations into the world’s coolest underground art galleries, but they absolutely deserve immense credit and a big hug. This particular rainbow-hued station ended up being one of my absolute favorite photographs from our entire Northern Europe trip, serving as the perfect, vibrant crescendo to our cruise adventure.
