Vibrant Holiday Welcome: Christmas Doorway Designs

Every holiday season, we embrace vibrant colors in our home decor, especially when it comes to our front door. This year, we’ve created some custom Christmas door decorations that are sure to spread holiday cheer.

Our pink front door is already a statement piece, but it’s also the perfect canvas for adding an extra burst of color during the holidays! This year, we’ve incorporated a flocked outdoor Christmas garland, jumbo sisal trees, and life-size gold nutcrackers. If this front door Christmas decor doesn’t scream “Happy Holidays,” we don’t know what does!

DIY Rainbow Sisal Trees Wreaths

We absolutely love how the double pink doors look with Christmas wreaths! Initially, we considered using traditional wreath forms to craft custom front door wreaths. However, we opted for a simpler approach by adding colorful mini sisal trees to flocked wreaths from At Home. So, this Christmas wreath idea is more of a “hack” than a full-fledged DIY project, as we’re simply embellishing a store-bought wreath. Here’s how we created these sisal tree wreaths:

Materials You’ll Need:

• Flocked or green wreaths (store-bought)
• Mini sisal trees (various colors)
• Fake snow fluff
• Bottle brush trees (various sizes and colors)
• Hot glue gun and glue sticks
• Red ribbon

Instructions:

1. Using a hot glue gun, attach fake snow fluff and bottle brush trees onto the branches of the flocked or green wreath. Apply the glue carefully to avoid burning yourself.
2. Distribute the fake snow and bottle brush trees evenly around the wreath to create a balanced and visually appealing design.
3. Instead of a traditional bow, tie an extra-long piece of red ribbon onto the bottom of each wreath for an extra pop of color. This adds a touch of elegance and completes the look.
4. Hang your custom door hanging and enjoy! We absolutely love them!

Colorful Front Door Christmas Decor Ideas

We purchased giant nutcrackers from At Home and spray-painted them a solid gold to complement our sconces. Since we’re embracing an unconventional color scheme, we appreciate that the gold nutcrackers feel classic yet can be mixed and matched with other colorful elements. You could easily paint them to match your existing holiday decor. Fortunately, giant nutcrackers are quite popular, so you can find them online or at your local craft or hardware stores during the holiday season.

These giant light-up Christmas lights were a lucky find at Home Depot while we were shopping for spray paint! They originally had dark green tops, but we primed them with shellac and spray-painted the tops gold to match the nutcrackers. They come with a hook for easy hanging on garland wreaths, and we simply used a piece of colorful ribbon to complete the look.

Our DIY Sisal Trees

By far, our favorite part of the entire outdoor setup are the giant sisal trees! We were thrilled when we spotted them at Hobby Lobby! Unfortunately, they’re not listed online, but they come in black and white with a black metal pole and base.

We actually cut the poles down to stagger them at different heights. Then, we spray-painted the white bristles in various vibrant colors. Honestly, I wish I had bought more to create a massive display of giant bottle brush Christmas trees, haha!

To complement the colors of the jumbo sisal trees, we spray-painted sets of shatterproof ornaments in matching hues for the garland. We created a mix of teal, yellow, pink, and red ornaments to make them stand out against the flocked garland.

Since there’s rarely ice or snow in Houston, we added snow fluff for added texture. We tucked it into the tops of the sisal trees, around the garland, and on the door wreaths.
