Transforming Our Home: From Dated Spiral to Stunning Floating Stairs

There are countless adages about things not aging well, and in our new home, nothing felt quite as dated and impractical as the existing 1970s spiral staircase. We knew instantly that this old staircase was destined for a complete overhaul, making way for a sleek, contemporary floating stair design.

For the upstairs balcony area, we decided to infuse a touch more character. While maintaining the general flow and material palette of the main staircase, I envisioned a design that could incorporate a slightly more “retro fun” element. This approach allows the balcony to have its own unique personality without clashing with the sophisticated modernity of the floating stairs below. It’s about creating subtle distinctions that add depth and interest to the home’s interior design narrative.
