While the significant structural work is now behind us, the exciting phase of bringing our vision to life through decor, functional organization systems, and personalized touches is well underway. We’ve tackled the toughest parts, and now we’re ready for the fun details that will truly make this space our own.
A Glimpse into Our New Studio Layout and Vision
To provide a clearer picture of our expanded and optimized creative hub, we’ve prepared a visual floorplan that illustrates the thoughtful design behind every new addition. This layout is meticulously crafted to enhance workflow, foster creativity, and provide dedicated zones for various aspects of our work. Currently, we’re still utilizing our existing storage closet as we patiently await the arrival of our complete custom cabinetry from IKEA – a crucial component for our long-term organizational goals. Additionally, the much-anticipated new studio bathroom is slated for a later phase of the project.
Embarking on concurrent renovations for both our studio and our home has certainly been an intensive undertaking, requiring significant mental and physical bandwidth. Consequently, we’ve decided to strategically phase the studio bathroom construction, anticipating its completion sometime in 2018. This allows us to fully focus on perfecting the main studio space and recover before diving into another major segment of the renovation.
This floorplan represents not just a physical rearrangement but a strategic redesign aimed at maximizing every square foot for productivity and aesthetic appeal. It’s a testament to how thoughtful planning can transform a space.

Our studio is situated within a warehouse-type building, making noise reduction a paramount concern for fostering a focused and peaceful creative environment. Even though it’s an interior addition, minimizing distractions from the surrounding building was a top priority for us. After extensive research, we opted for Milgard vinyl picture windows. These have proven to be an exceptional choice, flawlessly achieving both objectives: significantly cutting out excess ambient noise and allowing an abundance of natural light to flood the new space. The transformation is truly remarkable, creating an open and airy feel that positively impacts our daily work and mood.

While the abundant natural light is fantastic, there are moments when privacy or light control is necessary, especially during video calls or for specific photo shoots. I’m currently exploring various window treatment options to strike the perfect balance between functionality and our studio’s evolving aesthetic. My current inclination is towards Blinds.com roll-down shades in a beautiful blush pink hue. This choice is deliberate, aiming to infuse a subtle warmth and a touch of our brand’s personality into the space without overpowering the clean lines and modern feel. Conquering Clutter: Our Strategy for a Streamlined Studio
Any creative professional knows that a well-organized space is fundamental to productivity and peace of mind. Our studio, with its myriad of tools, materials, and props, was teetering on the brink of organizational chaos. To tackle this head-on, we’re thrilled to announce an exciting collaboration with the talented Jeffrey Philips! Jeffrey will be joining us in Houston to help us navigate this “organizational hell” and implement smart, sustainable systems. His expertise will be invaluable in transforming our current jumble into an intuitive and efficient layout.
In preparation, we’ve already acquired some robust foundational pieces: a giant set of Uline industrial shelving and a sturdy industrial ladder. These heavy-duty solutions will form the backbone of our storage. To soften the industrial edge and introduce cohesive design elements, we’ll be integrating several large IKEA pieces. These will help break up the visual clutter, provide varied storage options, and ensure that every item, regardless of its type, has a designated and easily accessible home. This meticulous approach to organization is key to maintaining a functional and inspiring creative studio.
Flooring That Works: Practicality Meets Modern Aesthetics
One of the most immediate and impactful decisions we made during this renovation was regarding the flooring. A firm “no” was given to repeating white floors in the main studio area. While aesthetically pleasing initially, our past experience with white studio floors proved to be a total nightmare to keep clean, especially in a high-traffic creative environment. Dust, paint, fabric scraps – everything showed! This time, practicality and ease of maintenance were paramount, so we opted for beautiful laminate wood flooring.
After our meeting room post went live, many of you inquired about the specific flooring we used, and we’re happy to share the details. We sourced our laminate from Lumber Liquidators during a fantastic sale. We are absolutely loving it so far! Not only does it exude a sleek, modern aesthetic that perfectly aligns with our studio’s overall design, but its most significant advantage is its resistance to showing dirt easily. This is a game-changer for maintaining a tidy and professional appearance with minimal effort, allowing us more time for actual creative work rather than constant cleaning.
