I had grand intentions of doing just that, delving into my favorite memories and the incredible projects Sugar & Cloth tackled last year. However, the reality of late-stage pregnancy, coupled with the sheer exhaustion and overwhelm I experienced towards the end of the previous year, has made putting those reflections into coherent words incredibly difficult. It feels as though my mind has selectively blocked out much of the past, focusing instead with laser-like precision on the present moment and the monumental shift towards becoming a mom.

This isn’t to say that the journey of building Sugar & Cloth hasn’t been immensely rewarding. On the contrary, it’s been a whirlwind of creativity, hard work, and connection with an amazing community. But as any entrepreneur or creative can attest, there are times when the pace becomes relentless, leading to burnout. For me, that point was reached, and the natural consequence has been a prioritization of what truly matters right now: the health and well-being of our growing family, and the exciting transition into this new chapter of motherhood. My energy and thoughts are entirely consumed by the anticipation of our little girl’s arrival, the preparations for her nursery, and the countless small adjustments we’re making to our daily lives to welcome her.

While the blog will certainly evolve to include aspects of this new family life, rest assured that Sugar & Cloth will remain your trusted source for inventive DIY projects, inspiring home decor ideas, and delightful sweet treat recipes. These core pillars of our brand are deeply ingrained in my passion, and they will continue to thrive. This has been a dream project, conceived and meticulously developed with so much love, dedication, and countless hours of work. It represents a significant expansion of the Sugar & Cloth brand, allowing us to bring our unique aesthetic and love for beautiful, functional design directly into your homes in a tangible new way.

Our Intimate Maternity Shoot: Capturing the Magic at Home

In the whirlwind of nesting and preparing for both of our “babies,” we made sure to pause and capture this incredibly special season of life with a maternity photoshoot. We opted for a wonderfully low-key, intimate session right here in our newly settled home, shot by the talented The Cotton Collective. Our home has become a sanctuary during this pregnancy, a place where we’ve been building memories and envisioning our future as a family. It felt only natural, and profoundly personal, to have these cherished moments documented within its walls, creating a backdrop that is inherently us.

These photos aren’t about elaborate poses or dramatic settings; they’re a raw, honest, and beautiful reflection of our journey. They capture the quiet anticipation, the subtle glow (even amidst the swelling!), and the deep connection we feel as we await our little one. We chose to keep the styling simple, allowing the genuine emotions and the comfort of our surroundings to shine through. It was important to us that these images truly represent this unique chapter – the tenderness, the excitement, and the slightly surreal feeling of impending parenthood.

Now, a word to the wise, learning from my own experience: if you’re planning a maternity session, don’t do as I did and wait until you’re 8.5 months pregnant, feeling swollen, and generally quite huge, before scheduling it! While our photographer was absolutely incredible at making me feel comfortable and beautiful, there’s something to be said for tackling these shoots a little earlier when you might feel a touch more energetic and less encumbered. That being said, the upside of waiting meant the session definitely involved ice cream, which, let’s be honest, is always a welcome addition to any activity when pregnant! It added a touch of humor and indulgence to what was already a memorable occasion, reminding us to embrace the small joys and comforts along the way.
