The Unexpected Journey: Renovating Against All Odds
If there’s one thing I’ve learned recently, it’s that life loves to throw curveballs, especially when you’re undertaking massive projects. Who knew that simultaneously expanding our beloved Sugar & Cloth studio, renovating our home, and navigating a pregnancy would be my reality? In my defense, the news of our sweet baby girl arrived after this ambitious studio expansion was already in full swing! But let me tell you, the journey was nothing short of a roller coaster, complete with a major hurricane, an education in contractor management (and product ordering!), and weeks of deafening construction noises.
Painting, for me, has always been a form of meditation. It allows me to channel creative energy and find calm amidst chaos. And boy, did I need that therapeutic outlet during this period! The sheer anticipation of seeing this studio meeting room come to life, transforming from a raw, uninspiring space into a chic, functional hub, was the morale boost I desperately needed. Every stroke of paint brought us closer to this moment, a moment of triumph and undeniable beauty.
From Warehouse Woes to Chic Workplace: Our Before & After Story
Our initial vision for the studio meeting room was clear: a space that reflected the Sugar & Cloth brand – vibrant, elegant, and effortlessly chic – while also serving as a practical, inspiring environment for collaborations and creative brainstorming. The “before” state of this area, part of a larger warehouse expansion, was far from inspiring. It lacked natural light, warmth, and any semblance of the personality we envisioned. It was a blank canvas, yes, but one that presented significant design challenges.
You might recall a glimpse of the initial expansion plans from my previous post about expanding our studio. Looking back at those ‘before’ photos now, the transformation is truly astounding. The difference is night and day, and it makes all the hurdles we faced completely worth it. Our goal was to create a comfortable, stylish, and highly functional meeting space that would not only impress clients but also motivate our team every single day.
The Perfectly Polished Palette: A Masterclass in Color Coordination
When it came to selecting colors for this vital space, I knew I needed a cohesive, designer-approved approach. This is where the HGTV HOME™ by Sherwin-Williams Color Collections became an absolute game-changer. For anyone who struggles with picking coordinating paint colors, these collections are a dream come true. With 16 distinct designer-inspired collections, each featuring 20 harmonizing hues, the guesswork is completely removed. You can confidently mix and match any color within a collection, knowing they will beautifully complement each other.
I was immediately drawn to the Perfectly Polished Color Collection. Its name alone perfectly encapsulated the sophisticated, modern aesthetic I envisioned for our studio. And, naturally, the collection’s ideal blush pink shade captured my heart from the start! This collection offered the perfect balance of soft, inviting tones with a touch of playful elegance.
For the walls, trims, and baseboards, we chose HGTV Home by Sherwin-Williams in Pure White (HGSW4006). This crisp, clean white provided the perfect bright canvas, reflecting natural light and making the room feel expansive and airy. The star of the show, however, quickly became the doors. Painted with two coats of HGTV Home by Sherwin-Williams Romance (HGSW2067), a truly enchanting blush pink, they add an unexpected pop of color and personality. It’s a subtle yet impactful statement that instantly elevates the entire room. I am so enamored with this shade that I’m now contemplating painting every door in my life blush pink!
Beyond aesthetics, we also prioritized practicality. We opted for Showcase®Interior Paint+Primer throughout the studio. This advanced formula boasts a new and improved stain-blocking capability, which is essential in a busy, creative studio environment. Knowing that spills and smudges can be easily cleaned, even after they’ve dried, provides immense peace of mind. It’s a durable, high-performance paint that truly lives up to its promise, ensuring our beautiful new meeting room stays pristine for years to come.
Strategic Design: Maximizing Light and Defining Style
One of the primary design objectives for this studio meeting room, especially given its location within our warehouse expansion, was to capture as much natural light as possible. This meant strategically incorporating elements that would amplify any available sunlight from our existing studio space and the adjacent hallway. The decision to use Pure White (HGSW4006) on the walls was paramount, as white is renowned for its light-reflecting properties. But the truly transformative elements were the oversized French doors and new windows. These architectural additions made an absolutely massive difference, flooding the space with an inviting glow and creating an open, welcoming atmosphere that was previously unimaginable.
For furniture, we aimed for a blend of existing pieces and new acquisitions to achieve a balanced, modern aesthetic. We repurposed the elegant marble tulip table from our old studio, which serves as the perfect central meeting point. To complement it, we introduced new white and gold chairs, adding a touch of contemporary sophistication and a subtle shimmer. While you might rarely see me incorporating black furniture into my designs, the sleek black credenzas were an essential, strategic choice. Their perfect size allowed them to flank the French doors beautifully, and critically, they provide a grounding element. The contrast of the black against the dominant blush pink, white, and gold palette prevents the room from feeling overly feminine, adding a desirable layer of sophistication and balance.
The Art of Styling: Curated Details Make the Difference
With the major structural and design elements in place, the final step was to infuse the space with personality through careful styling. This is where the blush pink, white, greenery, and gold theme truly came to life. Every accent piece was chosen to reinforce this cohesive and elegant aesthetic. From fresh greenery in chic white ceramic planters to delicate pink hexagon vases, each item contributes to a sense of calm and creativity. Gold frames adorn the walls, showcasing curated art that inspires, and subtle gold accents on shelves and surfaces tie the room together beautifully.
And speaking of accents, I have a confession: does anyone else out there buy adorable books purely for their aesthetic value, just for styling purposes? Or is that just my quirky habit? Either way, they add a charming, personal touch to the credenzas, inviting a moment of pause and curiosity. These thoughtful details, though seemingly small, are what transform a well-designed room into a truly memorable and inspiring meeting space.

Completing this studio meeting room feels like a monumental achievement, a beacon of progress amidst a sea of ongoing renovations. It’s truly inspiring to have at least one finished space that reflects the essence of Sugar & Cloth. But the journey doesn’t stop here! I’m beyond excited to gradually share more of our expanded studio with you in the coming weeks and months. We still have our main office/coworking space, a brand-new storage area, and a stunning new kitchen waiting in the wings for their grand reveals.
